Citizens Advice Bureaux open in Ashton-in-Makerfield, Wigan, Atherton and Leigh.

1950 - 1959

Ashton-in-Makerfield, Atherton and Leigh close. Wigan combines with library.

1963

Number of enquiries rose in library. Officer recruited solely for Citizens Advice Bureau.

01 August 1966

Hindley opened.

11 April 1970

Atherton opened.

14 September 1970

Leigh opened.

1975

Wigan Citizens Advice Bureau opened at the request of Wigan Metropolitan Borough Council.

1st April 1996

Ashton-in-Makerfield, Hindley and Atherton formally merged with Wigan as Citizens Advice Service in the Borough of Wigan.

2003

Leigh Citizens Advice Bureau closed. Citizens Advice Service in the Borough of Wigan took over advice service.

2015

Service rebrand, ‘bureau’ dropped, look modernised. Citizens Advice Service in the Borough of Wigan began operating as Citizens Advice Wigan Borough.
